The Lumia 650 is Microsoft's first mid-range Windows 10 mobile of 2016, following the flagship Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL phones and the Lumia 550 budget blower which launched just before Christmas. Packing a 5-inch HD screen and 8-megapixel camera as well as a £150 SIM-free price tag, the Lumia 650 sits squarely in the middle of the new Windows 10 family.
As one of the leaders in our devices business, I've had the privilege of seeing firsthand transformation and progress across our Windows and Devices group. From Windows 10 to Surface Book to HoloLens, and PC-like productivity on Lumia 950 series, it is clearly now apparent that we have a portfolio of unique and productive Windows devices.
So, is the Lumia 650 enough of an update compared with last year's Lumia 640?
Needless to say, the Lumia 650 will run Windows 10, becoming Microsoft's fourth smartphone to be based on this new version of the OS - after the Lumia 950 XL , Lumia 950 , and Lumia 550 , all of which were announced in October 2015.
Design
The Lumia 650 is the first ‘affordable' Microsoft mobile to feature metallic edging, stretching around almost the entire circumference of the phone. This really is a beautiful phone. Getting back to the Lumia 650, whether or not it's the last Lumia, it features a thin and light design - 6.9mm and 122g - plus there's a polished, diamond cut and anodized aluminum frame which you don't even get on the flagship Lumia 950 range. The phone still has a removable battery (2000mAh) and expandable storage, though.
Screen and media
As per rumours, the Lumia 650 offers a 5in AMOLED screen with a 720p resolution. The Lumia 650 packs a marginally bigger screen than the Lumia 550, at 5-inches compared with 4.7-inches. There's 1GB of RAM to run Windows 10 but the device doesn't feature Continuum.
Features and Windows 10 experience
Building on our success of more than 200 million devices running Windows 10 , the Lumia 650 puts Microsoft's smooth, responsive and most productive OS in your pocket. Windows 10 is of course the OS of choice, so you get the usual array of basic Windows features, including the Cortana voice assistant and Glance Screen (to check for notifications without powering up the phone). Here's hoping it comes to the Lumia 650 in a future update.There's also no Continuum here, most likely a result of the Lumia 650's basic performance.

Performance
The Lumia 650 packs the same Snapdragon 212 processor as its cheaper sibling, the Lumia 550, which is surprising to say the least.
Cameras
Lumia 650 also features a 5MP wide-angle, front-facing camera and Microsoft's flagship imaging algorithms, providing remarkable photo and video capabilities.

Price
Microsoft has confirmed that the Lumia 650 will go on sale on 18 February, ahead of Mobile World Congress 2016 We're told it will have an ERP (estimated retail price) of £150-160 Clove has a price of £169 for a SIM-free Lumia 650. What we don't know is whether the Lumia 650 will be the last Lumia, which is what Windows Central claimed in its report.
The Lumia 650 finally introduces some premium design elements into Microsoft's mid-range offerings and has a few positive elements that will appeal to the average consumer, including a strong screen for the £150 price point.
