Samsung Electronics Announced the Samsung Galaxy View, which delivers an unprecedented mobile entertainment experience by streaming video and media content on the largest Android mobile device on the market. If bigger truly is better, Samsung has just taken the wraps off the best tablet we may have ever seen. Its name is the Galaxy View and this hefty goliath has a whopping 18.4-inch display.
The Samsung Galaxy View will cost you $599 when it arrives on November 6 (UK and Australia availability and pricing are not yet confirmed, but that converts to £391 or around AU$830).Ridiculous though that might sound, Samsung reckons the View serves a noble purpose: couch potato nirvana. It's geared solely towards watching video.
Samsung Galaxy View Offers a New Dimension in Mobile Entertainment Experience. With its large touchscreen display, video-optimized user interface and long-lasting battery life, the Galaxy View lets consumers seamlessly experience the best in video and media from a range of television and other service providers. The Galaxy View’s 18.4” Full HD screen is optimized for media consumption. It has a full HD display (1,920x1,080 pixels), rather than the higher resolution ultra HD screens seen on its smaller Tab S2 line and its octa-core processor runs at just 1.6GHz.
Newly published FCC documentation provides a sketch of the rear of the tablet along with its precise measurements. The documents also confirm that the Galaxy View, codenamed SM-T677A, has LTE connectivity along with the usual Bluetooth and wireless radios, which makes it a rather peculiar device. Given the Galaxy branding, it's a practical certainty that the Galaxy View will run Android, and Alcatel recently unveiled its own 17-inch Android tablet, which it positioned as a home entertainment hub and an ideal device for the kitchen.
Just as Samsung's Galaxy Note phones blur the line between phone and tablet, its Galaxy View blurs the line between tablet and TV. Waning consumer interest in tablets hasn't stopped manufacturers from trying to breath some new life into the category, and Samsung is the latest to jump on the super-sized tablet bandwagon. Earlier this year Apple introduced its biggest tablet ever, the 12.9-inch Apple iPad Pro and it, like the 27-inch Lenovo Yoga Home 900 and 18.4-inch Asus Transformer AIO, is geared towards productivity purposes. The Galaxy View is a slight departure from this trend, instead seemingly settling as a simple oversized tablet for binge-watching TV shows and sharing with the family.
The Galaxy View is Samsung’s latest tablet sized at 18.4 inches. At this size, the Galaxy View turns out to be the largest Android device ever made. Galaxy View’s screen has as a 1080p resolution with 119 ppi. Galaxy View is powered up with Samsung’s own Exynos 7580 CPU. This mighty tablet weighs at 2.64 kg.
A 2.1Mp front-facing webcam lets the Galaxy View record full-HD footage. Google apps preinstalled on the Samsung mega-tablet include Chrome, Gmail, Google Search, Maps, YouTube, Hangouts, Play Store, Play Movies & TV, Play Music, Drive and Photos.
